John Sisley Plays It As It Lays

John Sisley's art feels apocalyptic, like documentation that some strange experiment took place. Exploring a sort of science of the surreal, Sisley autopsies then reassembles objects giving them a new form and function. His minimal still lifes utilize stark blacks and whites- a clinical, detached kind of palette. Photographs are torn, pieced together and re-photographed. Sand from a three minute hour glass is removed then sculpturally arranged and rearranged. Permanence is fleeting.

For Play It As It Lays, Gallery Spaces' current exhibit, Sisley shares two roadside images en route to Las Vegas.
