Some photos by Todd Cole of "Secrets"

"Images are words...this is me writing a poem..."

For Gallery Space's current exhibit, Secrets, photographer Todd Cole shares a photograph from his series I'm Yours to Keep. Initially intended to be presented in book form, the autobiographical project regards Cole's childhood, teenage years and early adulthood in Houston, Texas. I'm Yours to Keep utilizes three subjects to function as narrative metaphors- landscape as displacement, nudes as sexuality and skies and mountains as transcendence. Together, images create a visual poem of removal and a yearning for change. Though photographs represent the Houston landscape, most were shot in the Inland Empire area east of Los Angeles County. Perhaps though Cole has reestablished himself outside of Houston, the memories of his past are barely just kept at bay.

Todd Cole's work has been shown in Paris at Colette, (2003), and in Mexico City at Monclova Gallery, (2005). In addition to the development of his personal work, Cole's photography features regularly in international magazines including i-D, Purple, Self Service, 032c, New York Times T Magazine, Vogue, Fantastic Man, The Fader, Art Review, and Vogue Hommes International.

I'm Yours to Keep will be published early 2011 by the publisher And Press.

And Todd Cole regarding secrets?

"Yes I have secrets, but I think some things are best kept as secrets. There is access to too much information these days. People don't need to know everything. A little mystery is a good thing."
